The Poetic Shift: The art of changing perspectives in one line.

A poet distills poetry by taking emotions, ideas, or brief, passing moments, and compressing them into powerful, meaningful lines.

The poet's main impactful repertoire is the 'poetic shift,' a deliberate pivot in thought, emotion, or perspective that will alter the reader's understanding and experience the poem according to the poet's interpretation. It is the moment to awaken poetic expressions.

Consider how a poem might begin. Does it begin in a peaceful environment, evoking tranquil moments, or immersing serene beauty, where the lines and imagery are soft and gentle. When the reader settles into a comfortable, scenic rhythm, a single line pops up to question, or provokes a stark, unexpected image - and the entire landscape of the poem is redefined. What was peaceful might then feel fragile, descriptive - become symbolic, and what seems personal might highlight universal truths.

In my poem, A Revival, the lines, 'between the clouds and the sea / sunset adorned / captured with an adoring eye / a timeless vision,' establishes a scenic beauty that is profoundly admired. The use of language is appreciative, while the tone implies serenity. Here, the reader shares the poet's quiet awe.
